Lauren Johnson

Lauren began belly dancing in January of 2011 at Saffron Dance in Arlington, VA, where she studied until the instruction of Jen Samati Dance, Elena Faye, Jenna Shear, Annie Lum, Bagoas, and Moria Chappell. She has supplemented her bellydance training with Horton Technique under the instruction of Elana Anderson at Joy of Motion in DC. She has performed under the stage name “Livia LeRynn” at numerous venues, including the Virginia Theatrical Bellydance Festival with her troupe The Eumenides, of which she was the choreographer and artistic director. She dances in the “Tribal” Fusion style with strong Fat Chance Bellydance (formerly American Tribal Style (ATS), Persian, and Modern Dance influences.

Her work strives to tell character-driven stories while honoring the community-oriented and countercultural histories of her chosen dance form. She has also studied multiple martial arts at the black belt level and above, which she incorporates into her dance.
